Care centre backers renew fight

Campaigners have been fighting the council's decision

Disabled users of a day care centre have voted in favour of pursuing their legal challenge to get it reopened.

Choices on Westburn Road in Aberdeen closed last week as part of the council's programme of budget savings.

Campaigners could have opted to attempt to run the centre themselves, as they had already failed to secure an interim interdict to block the closure.

However, they are confident that decision can be overturned when they return to court later this month.

The centre closed as part of the council's programme of £27m in budget savings.

It offered respite care for 56 disabled people.

Campaign chairman Kevin McCahery said he was "certain" the courts would order the closure decision to be reviewed.
