Bomb team detonates beach device

Bomb disposal experts were called to a Moray beach to detonate a suspected historic explosive device found by a member of the public.

The object was found on the beach near Covesea Skerry, at Lossiemouth West Beach, at about 0830 BST on Tuesday.

The team from the Royal Navy carried out a controlled explosion on what was believed to have been a World War II smoke and flare device.

Grampian Police said the area had been cordoned off to allow the operation.
