Food disorder experiences wanted

The views of people who have experienced eating disorders are being sought about a new in-patient service.

The Aberdeen unit will open later this year to treat patients from Grampian, Orkney, Shetland, the Highlands, the Western Isles and Tayside.

It is expected many would have experience of severe anorexia nervosa.

The views of relatives and friends are also being sought. Anyone interested can contact Linda Keenan on 01224 557624 or email linda.keenan@nhs.net

The unit is believed to be the first of its kind in the NHS in Scotland.

Dr Harry Millar said: "The new in-patient unit is due to open later this year at Royal Cornhill Hospital and we want opinions and suggestions from people about how the service should look.

"We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who has had experience of in-patient care either as a patient, relative or carer, but we also want to hear about peoples' experience of the out-patient service."

Responses should be received by Friday 16 May.

A consultation event will then be held in the Douglas Hotel, Market Street, Aberdeen, on 7 June from 1030 BST to 1500 BST.

Written submissions will also be taken from people unable to attend the event.
