Tributes to 'beautiful' daughter

Lauren was on study leave from school when the crash happened

The parents of a 15-year-old girl killed in a road crash have paid tribute to their "beautiful" daughter.

Lauren Roberts was a passenger in a car involved in a two-vehicle collision on the A90, near Peterhead power station, on Sunday night.

Her parents revealed the last contact they had with their daughter was a text message saying she was going to be late after meeting a friend.

Four other people were injured in the smash.

In a statement released through Grampian Police, Jon and Karen Roberts, from Cruden Bay in Aberdeenshire, said Lauren was the "brightest, funniest, most beautiful girl any mum or dad could wish for".

They added: "She has been taken from us suddenly and without warning just as she was entering adulthood and her life was unfolding before her.

"Her little brother, Ellis, 10, for whom she cared so deeply, adored his sister and has taken her loss very badly.

"We all had such high hopes for her future. She was on study leave from Peterhead Academy for her Standard Grade exams and was eagerly looking forward to going to college and gaining a qualification which would enable her to follow her dream and embark on a career in social work, hopefully working with children.

"She was also looking forward enormously to going on holiday to Florida with a friend in October. For the past two years she had worked part-time as a waitress at Cruden Bay Golf Club where she was very popular with the members and staff."

Mr and Mrs Roberts said they had been "deeply moved" by messages left on their daughter's Bebo internet page, and invited anyone who would like to say anything about Lauren to add it to the site.

'Special girl'

They added: "The last word we had from Lauren was a brief text message saying she was going to visit a friend and would be late.

"We now have to come to terms with the knowledge that Lauren has gone from us and we shall never again know the joy of her smile or hear the house filled with her laughter.

"But we have such wonderful memories of a very special girl who will always have a special place in our hearts."

Lauren was a passenger in a black Renault Clio which was involved in a collision with a blue Ford Fiesta.

Two boys aged 17 and another girl, also 15, were injured, along with the 23-year-old driver of the Fiesta.

The teenagers' injuries were not thought to be life threatening while the Fiesta driver was released from Peterhead Hospital after treatment. Police have appealed for witnesses to the accident to come forward.
