A 15-year-old girl has been killed in a two-car crash in Aberdeenshire.

Lauren Ellen Roberts was a passenger in one of the vehicles which collided on the A90, near Peterhead power station, at about 2200 BST on Sunday.

Two boys aged 17 and another girl, also 15, were injured, along with the 23-year-old driver of the other car.

One of the casualties had to be freed from the wreckage by fire crews. The main A90 Aberdeen to Peterhead road was closed overnight.

Lauren was a passenger in a black Renault Clio, which was involved in a collision with a blue Ford Fiesta.

The teenagers' injuries were not thought to be life threatening while the Fiesta driver was released from Peterhead Hospital after treatment.

Sgt Graham Sloan, of Grampian Police, said: "We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision or may have stopped and assisted at the scene before continuing their journey to contact us."

He also asked anyone who was travelling on the A90 near the scene at about 2200 BST to contact officers.
