Six arrested in restaurant swoop

Six people have been arrested and one restaurant closed during an immigration operation in Aberdeen.

The men, including Nepalese, Bangladeshi and Indian nationals, were detained for offences against immigration legislation.

Grampian Police and officers from the UK Border Agency (UKBA) visited premises in the Bridge Street, Belmont Street and Market Street areas.

One restaurant had to close its doors due to its "unsanitary state".

Pc David Elrick, of the Grampian Police city centre unit, said of Tuesday night's operation: "This was an excellent example of the various public bodies working together to ensure the safety and well being of the public at large."
