Shore searches for missing driver

Grampian Police divers
Grampian Police divers had to abandon their search

Shore searches are to continue for the driver of a car which plunged over 100ft cliffs on Orkney.

The car was found under water after a full air and shore search was launched involving lifeboat and coastguard crews at the cliffs at Yesnaby last week.

Local man, Darren Kirkness, 20, is missing and was believed to have been the driver.

A Grampian Police dive team travelled to Orkney in a bid to examine the car, but it was deemed too dangerous.

Tourists reported the incident last Wednesday afternoon.

The Shetland Coastguard rescue helicopter was called to the scene, alongside Stromness lifeboat.

Yesnaby lies on the west coast of Orkney's mainland, south of the ancient site of Skara Brae.
