Car plunge body search under way

Grampian Police divers
Grampian Police divers will search the wreckage at Orkney

The search for the driver of a car which plunged over 100ft cliffs on Orkney is to get under way on Friday.

The car was found under water after a full air and shore search was launched involving lifeboat and coastguard crews at the cliffs at Yesnaby on Wednesday.

It is believed a local man, Darren Kirkness, 20, was in the vehicle.

A Grampian Police dive team has travelled to Orkney to examine the wreckage in the water. Favourable conditions were forecast.

Tourists reported the incident on Wednesday afternoon.

The Shetland Coastguard rescue helicopter was called to the scene, alongside Stromness lifeboat.

Yesnaby lies on the west coast of Orkney's mainland, south of the ancient site of Skara Brae.
