A car which was reported to have gone over 100ft cliffs on Orkney has been found under water.

A full air and shore search had been launched involving lifeboat and coastguard crews at the cliffs at Yesnaby on Wednesday afternoon.

It is thought that there was one occupant of the car and inquiries were ongoing to identify them.

A dive team was to examine the wreckage, which is lying in water at the foot of the cliffs.

Two Spanish tourists reported the incident shortly after 1300 BST.

The Shetland Coastguard rescue helicopter was called to the scene, alongside Stromness lifeboat.

Yesnaby lies on the west coast of Orkney's mainland, south of the ancient site of Skara Brae.
