Camouflage secrets emerge at show

The evolution of camouflage - from concealment to fashion - is being laid bare for all to see at a new exhibition in Aberdeen.

It details its origins in nature to its use in the military and on the catwalk.

Among the Camouflage 2008 exhibits at the Gordon Highlanders Museum are a collection of garments created by local university textile students.

A project website which can be found at www.camouflagecity.co.uk has been designed.

Camouflage 2008 has been developed by the Gordon Highlanders Museum.

It is in collaboration with Aberdeen City Council's arts development team and a range of partners.

It explores the development of camouflage from its origins, with animals and plants using it, to its militarisation and then its impact on fashion and design.

The museum's executive director, Sarah Malone, said she hoped that over the coming months the project should encourage creative collaboration across the city.

Camouflage 2008 runs until October.

It was launched on Tuesday by historian and author of Camouflage, Tim Newark.
