Sir Alex set for Pittodrie return

Sir Alex Ferguson
The former Aberdeen manager has enjoyed great success

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson could be returning to Pittodrie - albeit with his team.

A game with Aberdeen to mark the 25th anniversary of the Dons winning the European Cup Winners' Cup could be on the cards, depending on negotiations.

A spokesman for the Gothenburg testimonial committee confirmed that discussions were at an advanced stage with the Manchester United board.

Details could be finalised soon. There are also talks with another top side.

Sir Alex led Aberdeen to three Scottish championships, four Scottish Cups, one League Cup, the Cup Winners' Cup and the European Super Cup.
