The family of a woman whose body was found in a car in Aberdeen have been left "devastated" by her death.

The body of Anne Farquhar, 45, from Langdykes Road, Cove, was discovered inside a silver Renault Megane in Riverside Drive on Friday morning.

A 50-year-old man has been charged in connection with Ms Farquhar's death and is due to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Monday.

Police are continuing to piece together the last known movements of the car.

'Terrible event'

Detective Inspector Andy Imray said: "Anne's family, partner and friends are naturally devastated by her death.

"They are only beginning to come to terms with this terrible turn of events."

He added the family wished to be "left in peace to comfort one another".

Police said witnesses had seen a car thought to be the Renault stop in the inner lane of the A90 Aberdeen to Stonehaven Road at about 1030 GMT.

Mr Imray said: "This response has been of great assistance to our inquiry and I renew my appeal, in light of this more specific location, for other motorists or their passengers to call us with information."
