Ice warning after wind and snow

High winds have been sweeping parts of the country
Police have warned of icy roads after snow and high winds in Grampian.

The warning came as a man was killed in an accident involving two vehicles on the A90 near Brechin on Friday morning.

Meanwhile, a woman was freed from her car after it left the Lumphanan to Torphins road in icy conditions and ended up down a 20ft embankment.

Efforts are also under way to restore power to about 200 homes in Orkney still without electricity after storms damaged power lines.

The female driver injured on the Lumphanan to Torphins road was freed and taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with a suspected arm and shoulder injury. It was one of a spate of accidents.

A Grampian Police spokesman said: "Drivers need to be wary of the current conditions and keep their speed down. They should also be careful when braking on icy roads.

"A number of drivers have been caught out since the onset of the freezing weather yesterday so we would urge them to be extra careful until the situation improves."
