A second student at Aberdeen University is being treated for suspected meningitis following the death of a 22-year-old man.
The dead student's body was found at the King Street halls of residence on Sunday afternoon.
NHS Grampian said he had died from a suspected meningococcal infection.
The second student is said to be in a satisfactory condition in hospital. NHS Grampian is investigating possible links between the two cases.
Raise awareness
"Letters have been delivered to students in the halls of residence affected," said a spokeswoman.
"The university is also using its internal communication channels to raise awareness among the student community and staff.
"This includes posters, leaflets and cards available in all halls of residence, and a web link from the university website to the Meningitis Trust website."
NHS Grampian said its health protection team was following routine procedures for both cases.
Red spots
Those who came into close contact with the students are being traced and given antibiotics.
Aberdeen University said it was taking "ongoing guidance" from doctors.
A spokesman said the university's thoughts were with the dead student's family and friends.
Meningitis symptoms can include fever, vomiting, severe malaise, headaches, stiff neck, visual discomfort in bright light, and possibly a rash of small red spots which looks like bruising.
