The Peterhead community is said to thrive on fish
Fisheries ministers from across the UK have held "historic" talks in Scotland for the first time.

Rural Affairs Secretary Richard Lochhead was in Peterhead with colleagues from Westminster, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Mr Lochhead said the meeting offered an insight into Scotland's fishing industry and the chance to exchange ideas.

The Aberdeenshire town is one of the largest white fish ports in Europe.

Mr Lochhead said afterwards: "I was very pleased to host this historic meeting.

"It was the first opportunity for the four administrations to have friendly and frank exchanges on the future of a number of issues facing our fisheries.

"A follow-up meeting is planned for later this month in Brussels, where ministers will meet the Fisheries Commissioner Joe Borg."
