Major fishing talks in Scotland
Peterhead Harbour
Peterhead is viewed as the largest white fish port in Europe
Fisheries ministers from all over the UK will meet in Scotland for the first time this week.

Rural Affairs Secretary Richard Lochhead will be in Peterhead with colleagues from Westminster, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Mr Lochhead said he hoped Friday's meeting would provide an insight into Scotland's fishing industry and allow an exchange of ideas.

The Aberdeenshire town is viewed as the largest white fish port in Europe.

Mr Lochhead said: "I am pleased that they have been able to accept my invitation to the meeting and am particularly pleased that we are holding it in Peterhead, a vibrant fishing community.

'Excellent opportunity'

"I am sure this will provide a useful insight into Scotland's fishing industry and the opportunity to hear from our fishermen and all those involved in contributing to its current and future prosperity.

"The Scottish Government promised at the outset a fresh start and fresh ideas for fisheries."

He added: "All four administrations have new ministers and this will be an excellent opportunity to start a cordial and constructive relationship and have initial face-to-face discussions on some of the key issues.

"This way we can see areas of common interest and learn from each other's perspectives."
