Gas scare parents call for action

The father of a schoolboy who was taken to hospital after he was exposed to gas during a school trip to France has called for the council to take action.

Eleven pupils from Bridge of Don Academy, near Aberdeen, fell ill after breathing in chlorine gas at their hotel swimming pool last week.

George Sim, whose son Kyle, 13, was affected, said the council must take the lead to find out what happened.

A meeting over compensation was put on hold on Tuesday.

This was because the report into what happened has not been made public.

The children, who returned home on Saturday, fell ill last Wednesday at the My Travels Explorers hotel at Disneyland Paris.

Aberdeen City Council said the French authorities were investigating the cause of the leak.

Mr Sim said parents had been told "more or less" by a council representative that the local authority did not feel that they could pursue the matter in anyway because it did not suffer any financial loss.

"I still think the council has a responsibility to find out exactly what happened, what went wrong and what's going to be put in place to make sure it doesn't happen again." Mr Sim said.

"Until we get a full report, we really can't take it any further."
