Shop worker scoops £4m in Lottery
Lottery Winners Neil and Jennifer Murray
The couple celebrated their win with a Chinese takeaway
A shop worker who won £4m on the Lottery has told how he intends to return to his law studies.

Neil Murray, 27, from Banchory, Aberdeenshire, bought the winning ticket at the shop where he worked as an assistant manager.

He has already left that job but his wife Jennifer, 24, said she intended to carry on working as a teacher.

The couple said they were in shock after learning about the jackpot win in last Wednesday's draw.

Mr Murray said he was in disbelief when the six numbers - 7, 21, 22, 28, 37 and 40 - appeared to be a match, and had to ask his boss to double-check.

Mr Murray said the news of his £4,018,314 win had not yet sunk in.

"This is still a big shock. I just can't get over the fact that the thing you think is never going to happen to you has happened," he said.

He had previously been unable to complete a post graduate law course because of the cost of the fees.

Mr Murray now plans to pay off all his student loans and continue to pursue a career in law.

I just couldn't believe what I was seeing, so I asked my boss to look at them

"I can't ever imagine being a person who sits around the house all day doing nothing," Mr Murray said.

"I like to keep active and busy."

Mr Murray bought the ticket at the beginning of last week.

He said: "During my break at lunchtime on Thursday I got a print-out of the winning numbers from the night before to check my numbers.

"I just couldn't believe what I was seeing, so I asked my boss to look at them.

"I said to him 'could you check this, because I think I am going mad'."

Describing his boss's reaction, he said: "I think he swore at me."

After discovering his win, Mr Murray continued to work his shift at the store.

Taking holidays

He then went home and celebrated with a Chinese takeaway and champagne with his wife.

Mr and Mrs Murray now plan to move to a bigger house where they can keep horses, one of Mrs Murray's passions.

They said they would buy a new car and are thinking about taking holidays to Paris and New York.

The young couple said they were also considering donating some of the money to cancer charities.

Mrs Murray was in a shop looking at horse magazines when she received the phone call from her husband. "I didn't believe him," she said.

"But I guess I do now."
