Dog owners are being warned to clean up after their pets

An Aberdeen dog owner has become the first person in the city to be penalised for allowing his dog to foul in the street.

Community wardens in Torry issued the man with the fixed penalty notice.

Grampian Police said he had failed to clear up after the dog on a grass area on the corner of Oscar Road and Grampian Place.

Offenders have 28 days to pay the £40 penalty. Failure to pay means it rises to £60, then possible court action.

Dog owners who let their dogs foul public areas have been warned they could be next.

A Grampian Police spokesperson said: "Community wardens were recently given powers to issue fixed penalties to dog owners who allow their dogs to foul.

"This is a persistent problem which causes annoyance to many residents across Aberdeen."
