The dramatic rescue was carried out in high winds
A doctor who went to the aid of injured crew on board a tanker in the Pentland Firth has been honoured.

Christine Bradshaw has been awarded the RNLI's bronze medal for gallantry.

The Orkney locum GP was winched onto the tanker FR8 Venture in atrocious conditions last November to aid a severely injured crewman.

Two crewmen died when the tanker was hit by a massive wave, but the rescued man survived and has now made a full recovery.

The RNLI said her bravery was of the highest order and that her actions undoubtedly saved the life of the crewman.
