Doric group now in Pole position

A group teaching Polish women in Aberdeen how to speak Doric has been given a financial lifeline.

BBC Scotland revealed there were fears the project would have to be shut down.

However Aberdeen City Council has given the group enough funding for the rest of the year, and has vowed to find ways of keeping it open long-term.

The Polish ladies group was set up in Torry to help women from Poland integrate into the area. It has been hailed a great success.

Aberdeen City Council is giving the group £4,000 from the National Priorities Action Fund.

The Polish ladies group has been running classes where local women can learn Polish and the new arrivals can try their hand at Doric and English.

Organisers say the group has helped reduce tensions between the communities.
