Auchtavan Cottage is in a poor state
A ruined cottage dating back to the 18th Century and deemed to be of national importance by Historic Scotland is to be restored.

Cairngorms National Park Authority has approved conservation works on Auchtavan Cottage and mill building at Glen Feardar, Braemar.

It is one of the last of its kind and features what is known as a cruck framed structure with a hanging lum.

Part of the work will see a section of the cottage's roof re-turfed.

Andrew Tait, development control officer at the CNPA, said: "The restoration of the buildings would contribute to both the cultural heritage but also to the wider historic value of settlement in the landscape."
