The Queen's New Year Honours list recognised efforts in the area

People throughout the North East and Northern Isles have been awarded MBEs in the Queen's New Year Honours list.
Margaret Arnold and William Duncan, both of Elgin, were honoured for services to a servicemen's families association and education respectively.
Mary Ord, of Huntly's Macmillan Cancer Research, and William Slater, of Orkney Boys' Brigade, were also recognised.
So were Kenneth Milroy, of Aberdeen's Foyer, for disadvantaged aid, and James Moar, a Shetland retained firefighter.
Peter Smith, a plumber on the Balmoral Estate, was awarded a Royal Victorian Medal.
Mrs Arnold was honoured for her services to the Soldiers', Sailors' and Airmen's Families Association in Moray, Nairn and Banffshire.
Profoundly deaf
Mr Duncan was recognised for services to further education as college secretary and clerk to the board of management at Moray College.
Mrs Ord was made MBE for services to the Huntly and District Macmillan Cancer Research branch.
Mr Slater, of Kirkwall, was honoured for services to the Boys' Brigade on Orkney.

Services to disadvantaged people in Scotland was highlighted for Mr Milroy, of Stonehaven, as chief executive of Aberdeen Foyer.
And Mr Moar, of Lerwick, won recognition for services to fire safety as a retained station officer for Highlands and Islands Fire and Rescue Service.
Renowned percussionist Evelyn Glennie OBE was made a Dame for services to music.
Profoundly deaf since the age of 12, the 41-year-old was brought up in Ellon, Aberdeenshire.
