Oil workers
Larry Kinch works in the field of oil technology
Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen has announced that it will honour a leading technologist and entrepreneur in the oil industry.

The university will confer the honorary degree of Doctor of Technology on Larry Kinch at a ceremony on 8 December.

Larry Kinch was born in Aberdeen and grew up in the Mastrick and Garthdee areas of Aberdeen.

His career started at 16 as an apprentice engineer but he later launched an oil company now worth 1bn.

Mr Kinch said: "Technology is actually the great provider for this industry but many people fail to understand that.

"Without technology the industry would never have happened. I am a huge believer in technology."
