The roof of one bus was torn off in the crash
Six people have been hurt after two buses crashed in an Aberdeenshire town.

The roof of one bus was ripped off and all of its windows were smashed in the accident, which happened in Inverurie's Market Place at about 1400 GMT.

Grampian Police said the accident involved two Stagecoach buses and a car.

All of the injured were in one of the buses, with four - including the male driver - taken by ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Two other injured people were taken to a local surgery for a check-up.

Police said it was fortunate no-one had been more badly hurt in the accident, near to the junction with Oldmeldrum Road.

Three ambulances were called to the scene alongside Grampian Police and Grampian Fire and Rescue Service.

A police spokesman said the four people who had been taken to hospital were an 88-year-old woman from Aberdeen, a 52-year-old woman from Port Elphinstone, a 33-year-old woman from Inverbervie and the driver of the bus, a 48-year-old Aberdeen man.

Diversions were being organised and members of the public were asked to avoid driving through Inverurie town centre if possible as the area was expected to be affected for some time.
