A date has been set for an inquest into the death of an Aberdeen soldier who was killed in Iraq earlier this year, BBC Scotland has learned.

L/Cpl Allan Douglas, 22, who was serving with The Highlanders, was shot by a sniper in southern Iraq in January.

The Coroners Court at Oxford has confirmed the hearing will be held on Wednesday, 11 October.

His family has asked for no witnesses and all evidence will be documentary.

They said at the time of his death that L/Cpl Douglas had not wanted to return to fight in Iraq.

L/Cpl Douglas later had a full military funeral in Aberdeen but without a traditional eight gun salute at the request of his family.
