Police to track down new officers
New recruits
The recruits could serve anywhere in Grampian region
Grampian Police has launched a major campaign to recruit more than 100 full-time officers and 50 volunteer special constables.

The force currently has more than 1,300 regular officers and more than 120 special constables and wants to build on that over the coming year.

Candidates will be men and women aged over 18-and-a-half.

Grampian Police said: "These officers will add to our operational capacity and enable us to enhance our services."

The new recruits could find themselves serving in any one of its four divisions in Aberdeen, Moray, North Aberdeenshire and South Aberdeenshire.

Grampian's head of recruitment, learning and development, Superintendent John Cummings, said: "The 110 regular constables and 50 special constables we aim to recruit this financial year represents a significant increase in our recruitment activity.

"We believe that a career in Grampian Police offers a significant number of exciting challenges while also offering up opportunities to make a real difference in our communities."

Cash awards

Special constables hold the powers of a regular officer, wear the same uniform and are fully trained to undertake duties.

They work from their local police station at a mutually convenient time and can qualify for an award of £1,000 depending on the number of duty hours they carry out.

Aberdeen City Councillor Martin Greig, vice convener of Grampian Joint Police Board, said: "Grampian Police officers are recognised for their high standards of professionalism and commitment.

"Many people want to see more officers out on the street and additional officers will be very welcome."

Application forms can be found at the Grampian Police web site or by calling the recruitment office on 01224 305682.

A cadet scheme for young people being developed by Grampian Police attracted more than 100 enquiries earlier this year.

Teenagers aged 16 and 17 living in the region will be paid between £6,579 and £7,767 per annum during the course of their cadetship.

Several former police cadets serve with the force - including Chief Constable Colin McKerracher.
