There is a large but vulnerable Moray dolphin population
A young man has been reported to the procurator fiscal after an incident involving dolphins in the Moray Firth.

A man was seen on a jet ski close to a number of bottlenose dolphins near Macduff.

Grampian Police said a 20-year-old man from the Banff area was being reported in connection with the incident.

A police spokesperson said: "There are believed to be about 130 bottlenose dolphins in the Moray Firth and the population is regarded as vulnerable."

Wildlife crime officer Constable Dave Mackinnon said: "The Moray Firth population is also the most northerly and largest of the species in the world.

"The alleged offence comes under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 for which there have been no convictions in Scotland to date."
