Two young girls were rescued from Loch Ness after their boat capsized.

The local girls, both aged 10, were sailing their Laser dinghy on the loch, close to Urquhart Castle near Drumnadrochit, when it overturned.

Onlookers raised the alarm at about 1700 BST when they noticed the pair in trouble about 100m offshore.

The RNLI Loch Ness lifeboat was on the scene within eight minutes and rescued the girls, who were both wearing lifejackets.

They were taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness, thought to be suffering from mild hypothermia.

The Inverness coastguard team was also involved in the rescue and a coastguard helicopter was on standby but was not needed.
