MSPs to meet crofters on new bill

A croft
Crofters from across the Highlands were expected to meet with MSPs

MSPs will meet with crofters as part of the Scottish Parliament rural affairs committee's consultation on the Crofting Reform Bill.

The meeting will be held in Thurso in Caithness later.

Measures to tackle absentee crofters are part of new legislation published by the Scottish government in December.

The Crofting Reform Bill will introduce measures to crack down on crofters who live away from their croft and do not play an active role in the community.

The government hopes the proposals in the bill will help preserve crofting as a way of life in Scotland.

Crofters from across the Highlands and Islands were expected to attend the meeting with MSPs.
