Brown urges support for Clach FC

Craig Brown said local clubs should be the hub of communities

Former Scotland football team manager Craig Brown has called for greater support for financially troubled Highlands club, Clachnacuddin FC.

The Inverness club went into administration last month owing £46,534 to Highland Council.

In an interview with Radio Scotland's Highland Cafe, he said clubs like Clach should be the "hub" of communities.

He said grass roots football and its facilities should get government funds to encourage health and fitness.

Mr Brown said: "The health of the nation is at stake here. The happiness and good feeling of communities is at stake."

'Sufficient income'

Meanwhile, the administrators appointed to handle Clach's debts said its intention is that the team fulfil its fixtures.

Chartered accountants Johnston Carmichael said it was reviewing the club's activities to try to work out a plan for its future.

A new buyer is being sought for the Highland League club.

Gordon MacLure, business recovery and insolvency partner at Johnston Carmichael, said Clach's supporters had made offers of help.

He said: "It is our intention that the club continues to fulfil its fixtures, but this is largely dependent on sufficient income being generated going forward to meet all the necessary operating costs and also on obtaining co-operation from all parties involved.

"We are encouraged by the initial help received from the club's supporters and others in providing funds.

"This needs to continue while attempts are made to attract interest in the club to try to preserve its Highland League status and its involvement with the local community."
