Aviemore is to host a gathering of international adventure tourism specialists next October. The Highlands town's selection as the next venue of the Adventure Travel World Summit was announced at this year's event in Quebec, Canada. As many as 500 delegates from 50 countries could attend. Tourism body VisitScotland said bringing the summit to the MacDonald Hotels Aviemore Highland Resort could generate £1m for the local economy. First Minister Alex Salmond had backed the town's bid to host the conference. Tourism Minister Jim Mather said the summit would help attract new visitors to Scotland.
