An author is to write his new novel tweet-by-tweet on the micro-blogging website Twitter.
Each tweet, or message, is limited to 140 characters and Highlands-based Peter Urpeth plans to post daily updates to the story.
MacKenzie's Issue will tell of the strange life of the last son of a branch of the Clan MacKenzie.
Mr Urpeth is writing development co-ordinator for Highlands and Islands arts agency Hi-Arts.
On the publically-funded organisation's website, he said he was intrigued by the challenges and limitations new technology offered in telling the story.
A singer also based in the Highlands is offering lessons in Gaelic on Twitter.
Fiona J Mackenzie, of Dingwall, started posting phrases shortly after joining the service.
As well as daily tweets, Ms Mackenzie posts weekly podcasts with text, phonetics and music.
The singer, who now has 589 followers, including people living in Australia and Venezuela, said she was "absolutely astounded" by the interest.
