Scots link to 30 Years War site

Culloden re-enactment
Dr Tony Pollard is an expert on the Battle of Culloden

An expert on Scottish battlefields is among a team of European archaeologists investigation a 17th Century field of conflict in Germany.

Dr Tony Pollard, of the University of Glasgow, will join counterparts from Sweden and Germany at Lutzen, a 30 Years War battle site, later this week.

Scots - many of them Highlanders - were among the ranks of Protestant soldiers fighting Catholic forces at the battle.

Dr Pollard is an expert on Scottish sites, including Culloden.

Protestants claimed victory at Lutzen in 1632.

Thousands died, including the triumphant army's leader, the Swedish king Gustavus Adolphus.

Dr Pollard said there was a possibility evidence of Scottish soldiers' involvement could be found during digs, including coins.
