The Seafood Company is moving salmon production to Fraserburgh

The fish processor Strathaird Salmon has confirmed it will close its factory in Inverness on Friday.

Most of the 326 staff have taken redundancy, but 22 have taken up the offer of employment at the owner's factories in Grimsby and Fraserburgh.

The Seafood Company, which owns the processor, is moving its smoked salmon production to Fraserburgh.

It had previously said it would have needed to invest £7m in the Inverness facility over the next five years.

Iain Herd, managing director at Strathaird Salmon, said: "We believed that we had the capacity to absorb all jobs at Inverness within our factories but recognised that colleagues may not wish to relocate."
