Opening date for revamped museum

Brochs can be found around Scotland, but most are in Caithness

The Caithness Broch Centre - formerly the Northlands Viking Centre - is to be officially opened on 25 July.

The building's new name reflects the record number of the 2,000-year-old stone towers found in the area.

Following a revamp, the centre documents and displays artefacts from Caithness's past, including Vikings.

Highland Council said the area has more brochs per square mile than any other part of Scotland. It has also seen more excavations of the towers.

Caithness Archaeological Trust has led the project which involves the local authority and National Museums of Scotland.
