Relief as new public loos found

Spean Bridge fire
Spean Bridge Woollen Mill and its toilets were damaged by fire

New public toilets are to be made available in a village after those used previously were destroyed by fire.

The loos in the Spean Bridge Hotel will be open to visitors as well as its clientele under Highland Council's Highland Comfort Scheme.

It offers funding to building owners to make their toilets accessible to the public.

Those previously used in Spean Bridge were lost when the village's woollen mill shop and cafe complex burned down.

The mill was almost completely destroyed in January's fire.

Lochaber provost Allan Henderson welcomed the hotel's decision to help out during the summer tourist season.

He said: "It was absolutely essential that we found a solution to Spean Bridge's problem, as this is one of the busiest junctions in the Highlands, as well as hosting the iconic Commando Memorial."
