Bike world cup website 'cleaned'

Google
Google has now removed the warning it placed above the url

The official website for the Fort William Mountain Bike World Cup has been "cleaned" following an attack by hackers, event organisers have said.

Google had posted a warning that the site had been compromised.

Clicking on the link given by the search engine was still leading to harmful software on Thursday - when next year's event was announced.

Its organisers said it could take a week or two for the changes to be recognised by Google.

A stage of the Nissan UCI Mountain Bike World Cup is to be held in Lochaber for the ninth time on 5 and 6 June, 2010.

Organisers said this year's event drew a record attendance of more than 18,500 spectators.

The harmful software on the website included trojan viruses.

The event's organisers said: "The world cup website came under attack.

"We have now cleaned everything up and increased the security even more, but it might take a week or two for changes to be recognised by Google.

"Apologies for the disruption it has caused to anyone, but hopefully all will be well shortly and the website will be fully accessible again."
