Hillwalker dies following rescue

A woman has died after being seriously injured during a hill walk in Sutherland.

The 51-year-old American woman was reported overdue from a walk near Durness at about 1650 BST on Wednesday.

A search was launched involving the police, mountain rescue and an RAF helicopter from Lossiemouth.

The woman was found seriously injured and was transferred to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness by helicopter but was pronounced dead on arrival.
