Opening ceremony on road to isles

A ceremony is due to be held to officially mark the upgrading of the last section of single track on the A830 Road to the Isles.

Work on the 4.6 mile (7.5km) stretch of the road between Fort William and Mallaig was part of a £22.8m project.

A protest by people living along the route calling for improvements to the A830 was staged in the 1990s.

The road passes through scenic countryside, but locals who use it said the road was unsafe and too narrow.
