Malcolm Jones, guitarist with the band Runrig, is seriously ill in hospital after collapsing at Waverley rail station in Edinburgh on Sunday.

It is understood he had been playing with band-mate Iain Bayne on the Black Isle north of Inverness and had been returning to his home in Fife.

A spokesman for Runrig confirmed that he had been taken ill and said they wished him a speedy recovery.

The band's tour of Germany, Austria and Switzerland has been cancelled.

A statement on the band's official website said: "We regret to announce that guitarist Malcolm Jones has been taken ill and as a result we have been forced to cancel the forthcoming tour of Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

"We are deeply sorry for the short notice and obvious inconvenience that this will cause. Ticket holders should contact their vendor for refunds.

"We will give you more information as soon as possible. However, in the meantime we are sure you will join us in wishing Malcolm a speedy recovery."
