Festival to visit emigrants isle

Ullapool
Ullapool is staging its fifth book festival in May

A book festival is to host visits to an island from where ships carrying emigrants left Scotland for North America in the 1800s.

Author Andro Linklater, a guest at the fifth Ullapool Book Festival in May, will also give a talk during tours of Isle Martin in Loch Broom, Wester Ross.

Mr Linklater lived on the island while writing his biography of Compton Mackenzie, who wrote Whisky Galore.

The tours are to mark Homecoming Scotland.

Isle Martin is community owned.

Other festival guests include authors Jackie Kay, A L Kennedy and Bernard MacLaverty.
