All P7 pupils at Highland Council's 184 primary schools are to receive health and fitness checks.

The project forms part of the local authority's forthcoming physical activity and sport strategy.

The checks are led by active schools co-ordinators and involve teachers and school nurses.

Highland Council said previous efforts - which include discussions on healthy eating - have resulted in fitter youngsters.
