Film star to open city festival

Tilda Swinto started her own film festival in Nairn.

Oscar-winning actress Tilda Swinton is to open the sixth Inverness Film Festival at Eden Court Theatre.

She won her award for her performance in Michael Clayton and also started her own festival in Nairn, the Highlands town where she has a home.

The Inverness festival will run until 23 November.

It will host Scottish premieres of Hamlet 2 starring Steve Coogan, ghost story Genova and German language film Nordwand - North Face.

Nordwand, which is based on a true story, is set in Germany in 1936 with the Olympic Games approaching while Nazi Germany is looking for new national heroes.
