Community raises wind farm cash

Wind turbines - generic
The funds raised will be used to buy a stake in a 19-turbine wind farm

Members of a Sutherland community have been celebrating after taking a major stake in a local wind farm.

The Kilbraur Wind Energy Co-operative has raise just over 1m, more than four times its target for the share offer.

The money will be used to buy a stake in a 19-turbine wind farm between Golspie and Brora.

The co-op originally aimed to raise 250,000 from shares costing 1 each but keen interest from locals resulted in a final total of 1,043,000.
