Fresh sightings of wayward whale

There have been further sightings of a 25ft long whale that strayed into a sea loch in Lochaber.

The animal which is thought to be a northern bottle-nosed whale has now been in Loch Eil, near Fort William, for three weeks.

The loch is deep in places but shallow around the narrows at Corpach, which is believed to have prevented the mammal working its way back out to sea.

It is a deep water species whose range extends to the Arctic.

Animal welfare officers have been observing the whale's activity.

In August, a 40ft sperm whale suffered a slow and painful death after becoming beached in shallow water in the Moray Firth just outside Inverness.
