MP to meet fish plant management

Western Isles MP Angus MacNeil is to meet the management of a closure threatened islands fish factory next week.

Lighthouse Caledonia has started consulting with staff at its plant on Lewis on possibly shutting it.

The company has said the design of the factory did not lend itself to modern processing techniques.

The plant employs 130 people and is one of the largest private employers on the islands.

Mr MacNeil said a solution must be found that means Lighthouse will continue to process fish on the islands.
