A woman has died and two people have been injured in a two-vehicle accident on the A9 in the Highlands.
Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to the scene at the Nuide Straight, two miles south of Kingussie, at about 1410 BST.
A man was airlifted and a woman taken by road ambulance to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.
Northern Constabulary said a woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The two other people have serious injuries.
'Important work'
Police said: "The force's road policing section will now carry out a full collision investigation and the road is expected to be closed for some time.
"Due to the important nature of this work and the time it takes to carry out, police would ask motorists to be patient whilst they travel through the diversions via Newtonmore and Kingussie."
The road has been the subject of calls by politicians for it to be upgraded to dual carriageway all the way from Perth to Inverness.
The Scottish Government said improvements would be considered in its transport strategy.
