Scottish ministers have travelled to Skye by ferry after an accident closed the island's Kyleakin road.

The Scottish Cabinet is meeting in Portree as part of a series of gatherings being held outside of Holyrood in Edinburgh.

First Minister Alex Salmond and Finance Secretary John Swinney were among those from the Scottish Government who took the ferry based at Glenelg.

One person died in Sunday's two-vehicle crash.

Romantic comedy

The Cabinet has previously met in Dumfries, Inverness and Pitlochry.

Isle of Skye Ferry Community Interest Company took over the Glenelg to Kylerhea service when its owner looked set to retire without a successor.

The ferry featured in the recently released romantic comedy, Made of Honour, starring US actor Patrick Dempsey and Elgin-born Kevin McKidd.
