Angler drowned near holiday home

An angler who drowned after getting into difficulty when he waded into the sea has been named by police.

Retired salesman Murray Johnstone, 79, of Castle Douglas, Dumfries and Galloway, had been fishing outside his holiday cottage on Harris.

He had been fishing from the shore of Loch Stockinish on Monday when his line entangled in seaweed and he waded out to try to release it.

His son tried to save him, and the emergency services were alerted.

Mr Johnstone was airlifted to Western Isles Hospital by the Stornoway Coastguard helicopter, but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
